BERT Update - At a congregational meeting held earlier this summer, we decided to go ahead with a building project that would increase worship seating by 50%, and make the whole building more comfortable and more welcoming. The architects will soon begin a more intense period of work on this project, with a scale model to be available early in 2020. A capital campaign will begin a month or two later, with the goal of raising perhaps half of the $1.5 million needed. Please send comments and questions to BERT@newhopelutheran.org.

Pocket Prayer Squares and Crosses - We now have pocket prayer squares that you can give to someone to keep with them all the time. They are pocket size and can slide in a pocket or purse to carry God's love and warmth with you all day. They are located in a basket on the ushers table in the narthex. Seeking Prayer Shawls - Seeking prayer shawls. They may be knitted or crocheted. Place them in the prayer shawl cabinet in the volunteer room. We have yarn. See Kathy Piet.
Friends Helping Friends (FHF) - is one of our programs to provide assistance when you need a helping hand: rides, shopping, light housework and yard work, meals, and the like. FHF is also looking for more members to join up to help fellow congregation members in need. Sign up in the narthex or by emailing Peggy Johnson
Faith Formation & Christian Education
Tuesday Bible Study - You are invited to join Kristi Keller for a Bible study that gives a broad overview of each of the gospels. The study will be at 7 pm on Tuesday nights starting on September 10 at the church. The study will start with an overview of the four gospels. Starting with Mark, the study will look at each gospel with themes and its historical context in the first session, then have two studies on passages from that gospel. Wednesday Morning Bible Study - (Wed, 10a, Conference Room/Library): The Wednesday morning Bible study group is studying, ! Corinthians. Everyone is invited to attend, even if you can’t be there regularly

Tuesday Morning Craft Group - The Tuesday Morning Craft Group will begin meeting again on Tuesday, September 17th from 10am to noon at the church. Come join us to knit, crochet, craft, talk, and enjoy yourself! We have projects at church you can help with, or bring your own project to work on. Don’t know how to knit or crochet? We can help with that too! The Tuesday morning craft group will continue to meet on the first and third Tuesdays of every month.
Care Bags for the Homeless - Pick up a bag from the baskets near the sign up bulletin board as you depart and give it to someone who is homeless. More information online to see what is needed. Place items in the coat closet. We need chapsticks, bottles of water and hand warmers to make more bags.
The Lutheran Episcopal Campus Ministry at UMBC - The Lutheran Episcopal Campus Ministry at UMBC needs people (individuals/families/groups) to prepare and deliver dinner for 10-12 people every Wednesday between 6 and 6:30 pm. If you are interested, please sign up using this link.
Patuxent Valley Middle School After School Snacks - In October 2019 New Hope will be supplying snacks once a week for some of the afterschool clubs. We will need snack donations, Thrivent members to run Thrivent Action Teams to purchase snacks, people to deliver the snacks and possibly distribute the snacks to the students.
